Andenes, Norway 2006
So you’re in the north of Norway and you’ve got a couple of days off, what do you do? You go whale watching of course.
even from where we were in Lofoten we still needed to travel further north to Andenes for the best chances of seeing whales and see whales we certainly did.
On our return to harbour what caught my eye most was the variety of colours the houses were painted. There is no prescribed colour to paint your house in Norway but in the past Red was the most expensive colour so everyone painted their house red to show how well off they were.
This has resulted in the traditional red and white that is now seen all over Norway. After a while it becomes so commonplace you almost don’t notice them at all.
The panchromatic mix of housing in Andenes was a refreshing change and resulted in one of my favourite pictures of the trip.
