Dingle Peninsula
15th August 2015
It is said that this is the point that Brendan set off on his epic journey leading to the discovery of America.
The Vikings tell a similar story about Lief the Lucky which is at least supported by some evidence, but ultimately the continent had already been “discovered” by the First Nations of the native Americans long before Europeans set foot there.
This spot does however give us our first proper view of the Atlantic Ocean which will become such a feature of our stay here on the Dingle Peninsula.
Our very nice cottage for the next few days was booked in the small quiet hamlet of Ballyoughteragh near Ballyferriter.
Close to the sea and in about the darkest place we could hope to be. I was hoping to get some dark sky shots a night around here.
A collection of small rocky islands just off shore had the potential to provide some interesting background details too.
